Sigrid looked at him and opened her eyes widely. “Dad, why would you have to call the babysitter? Bain’s off on his archery training and Tilda’s got ballet in 20 minutes, I can take care of that.” She went over to him and took off his glasses. Then she went over to his bedroom and picked out a suit from the wardrobe. “Oh really, you have nothing to wear? I’ve never seen this thing before I decided to clean your room after weeks of your writting when you let nobody in…”

Bard followed his daughter to his bedroom, hand running through his hair as he sighed, making it even more unruly than it already had been. “I’ve not worn that thing in ages, Sigrid,” he murmured, his reluctance coming through in his voice as much as the frown on his face. “It probably doesn’t even fit anymore.”

Leaning in the doorway, he crossed his arms, not feeling any closer to relenting. “I thought we could stay in, order some take-out, watch a movie. Truthfully, that sounds much more enjoyable to me than this event. They’ll hardly notice my absence, I’m sure.”
